Many people in the film industry would argue that LA is the place to be if you are a serious actor. I am an actress and I would have to agree 100%. Currently though, in my journey from Canada to the states I am now living in Seattle, Washington, and I would have to confess that so far living in the Seattle has been a great stepping stone in my career. The emerald city has allowed me to spread my wings, develope my auditioning techniques, and acquire some great contacts. I have even been awarded some very interesting acting gigs along the way.
I'm pleasantly surprised to find many auditions just blocks away from my home in Queen Anne. A quick bus ride to West Seattle, or the University District usually puts me on the audition waiting list for a fun open call of a student film. And with some good detective work I can find auditions for bigger productions. Lately I have been offered a part as Jennifer's Aniston's body double in a major feature film called "Traveling" shot here in Seattle. I have also been shooting a pilot, and am I'm currently waiting to start shooting for a tv show.
So yes, it is true what they say for the starving actor/actress that when it rains it pours, and this is especially true for those of us who live in Seattle. But on the off chance that the sun may come out, living in seattle as an actress can be a whole lot of fun!!
